Steve from Vocational Strategy spent the morning at Bolingbrook High School talking with students about resumes and how to highlight their skills to stand out in the workforce. The opportunity was made possible through the Work Force Academy, a partnership between the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce and Bolingbrook High School.
Speaking to high school students about resumes is important because it allows them to start thinking intentionally about what is absent from the resume and how they might get some experience to fill it. It allows for reflection on what they learned from that job or experience that might be considered a transferable skill in a future role. Most importantly they get to meet someone from the community who they can ask questions to where they are not graded; thus, bringing openness to communication and allowing for curiosity to lead the conversation.
